Department of Health – Eastern Visayas announced today the release of all pending samples from subnational laboratory in Cebu City. The pending samples are specimens from batch 14, 15 and 18.

A total of 106 pending samples turned negative. These are samples from the contact tracing in Tarangnan, Samar suspects admitted from different hospitals and samples from the contacts of Patient EV-14 from Catbalogan, City.

“This is good news that all pending samples turned negative. We are also happy that Eastern Visayas Regional COVID-19 Testing Center (EVRTC) is now operational. Hence, all newly collected specimens will be tested here in the Region. The waiting time for the results will be shorter. Therefore, we can isolate immediately our cases to prevent further transmission in the community”, Dr, Molon said.

Yesterday, May 11, 2020, first eight (8) samples tested at EVRTC were released and all samples turned negative. The laboratory has a maximum of 90 testing capacity per day.

“The laboratory will initially operate for at least eight (8) hours a day from Monday to Saturday. All samples from the Local Government Units and hospitals except those admitted at EVRMC, must be forwarded first to the DOH-EV Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) for proper labelling and recording. Then, the RESU will forward it to EVRTC” Dr. Molon concluded.
