Press Release| March 25, 2022.

A total of 94,349 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered throughout Eastern Visayas during its implementation of the recently concluded National COVID-19 Vaccination Days,
Bayanihan Bakunahan: March to Vaccinate campaign. This is equivalent to roughly 115% of the 81,779 targeted doses for the massive vaccination period.
Initially scheduled on March 10-12, the region has delivered maximum efforts to meet the demands of the vaccination drive even until its extension period on March 18. With the cooperation and full support of all partner agencies and organizations from both the public and private sectors, the region scored above its target, vaccinating those individuals with due second doses, missed second doses, remaining priority group A2 or Senior Citizens, remaining adolescent population aged 12-17, and booster doses in the health and economic sector.
With the region’s participation to this initiative, the province of Biliran has administered a total of 2,667 doses, Eastern Samar with 6,832, Leyte with 28,895 doses, Northern Samar with 11,306
doses, Western Samar with 16,503 doses, Southern Leyte with 9,095 doses, Tacloban City with 3,325 doses, and Ormoc City with 3,156 doses.
This achievement was made possible thru the exerted core strategies during the roll-out such as bringing the vaccination services closer to people, intensifying social mobilization and community engagement, sharing of resources and assistance to Local Government Units with higher targets and lower coverage rates, and engaging stakeholders from every sector to support the national government’s goal of a strengthened community protection. It is high time for the public to embrace the bayanihan spirit in the enforcement of the vaccination activities in the region. Currently, it is one major l criteria where the de-escalation of Alert Level Systems is based. In the country, it is imperative that a province or city has at least fully vaccinated 70% of its target population, and priority group A2 or the Senior Citizens, among others. Only the province of Biliran, and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc have recently met this criteria for Eastern Visayas. Based on the latest data from the Eastern Visayas COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard, a total of 2,816,675 residents of the region are now vaccinated with at least one dose against COVID-19 and 2,555,736 are fully vaccinated. While this accounts for 65.7% coverage rate for fully vaccinated individuals against 80% of the actual population, the region still needs to vaccinate a total of 1,075,451 individuals to meet the target.
The DOH EVCHD reminds the public- vaccinated or not- that, amidst the massive vaccination initiatives, embodying the agency’s Mask-Hugas-Iwas-Airflow-Bakuna advocacy is still a must. Continue to adhere and practice public health measures such as physical distancing, wearing of
well-fitted face masks, hand and respiratory hygiene, and ensuring good ventilation by opening windows and doors where possible. Vaccines do not replace the important prevention measures that are currently being practiced, these are additional layers of protection against the severe form of COVID-19.
