Today the laboratory results of the second Patient Under Investigation (PUI) in Eastern Visayas arrived and tested negative for the 2019 nCoV ARD. The PUI is a 30 year old female from Leyte with history of travel to Hongkong and Macau and went back to Leyte on January 21, 2020. She has been isolated and admitted for five (5) days in DOH referral hospital before the results came in and now she is for discharged.

On the other hand, the Department of Health Eastern Visayas monitored and isolated three (3) more Patient Under Investigation in the referral hospital. Overall, a total of seven (PUI) are now recorded in Eastern Visayas, of which one was discharged on February 1, 2020, one for discharged today and 5 are still isolated and accordingly managed.

The three (3) new PUI were admitted yesterday evening, February 4, 2020. All of them have a history of travel to Macau to visit a relative on December 23, 2019 to January 28, 2020. They arrived in Manila on January 28, 2020 and travelled to Tacloban City on Janaury 29, 2020.

The fifth (5th) PUI is a 7 months old, Filipino male. A history of fever and mild cough for 2 days starting January 23, 2020. Upon arrival on January 29, 2020, patient experienced unproductive cough but no fever thus prompting consult in a certain hospital.

The Sixth (6th) PUI is the mother of the 7 months old child, 26 year old, Filipino female who developed mild cough and sore throat on January 27, 2020.

The seventh (7th) PUI is the sister in law of the 6th PUI, 26 year old, filipino female who experienced also a mild cough on January 28, 2020.

First samples of the three (3) PUI has already been collected. Second sample specimen will be collected this evening and it will be sent to RITM tomorrow for laboratory testing.

“The increase in the number of PUI in the region is due the pro-active surveillance system of the Region and the increase of health seeking behaviour of the public with regards of the 2019 nCoV ARD” Dr. Carmen Garado concluded.
