The Department of Health Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-EVCHD) held a simple but meaningful commemoration of the 9th year anniversary of typhoon Yolanda’s devastation in 2013, last November 7, 2022 at the DOH-EVCHD grounds in memory of the souls of those who perished.

Following the office’s annual tradition, the commemoration began with a memorial mass joined by Regional Director Exuperia B. Sabalberino, Assistant Regional Director Rodolfo Antonio M. Albornoz, and all of the employees at the EVCHD hallway. After the mass, a solemn candle lighting ceremony, organized by the Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) Unit headed by Dr. Marc Steven D. Capungcol, was held outside of the main office building.

The EVCHD personnel were emotional as they recollected their experiences during the onslaught and the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda. This was followed by a series of prayer intentions from OIC Chief LHSD Dr. Ma. Teresa Caidic, Chief RLED Lilibeth Andrade, LHTA & FHU Head Dr. Milagros Salvacion, LHCO Head Dr. Fidelita Dico, Chief MSD Maria Rosario Balboa, Governance Unit Head Dr. Johnmae Charity Cañezal, HFEP Unit Head Dr. Marie Grace Bernardo, NCD Unit Head Dr. Marvin Jed Soledad, and HEMS Unit Head Dr. Marc Steven Capungcol. The program ended with a candle lighting on top of an exhibit in the shape of the cross, as they were serenaded by the Palo Ambassador’s Orchestra Strings and Ms. Anna May Lundy.

During the ceremony, RD Sabalberino affirmed that the candle-lighting ceremony and our prayers are not only meant to “honor those who have perished, but also to recognize the bravery of those who survived”.
