The Department of Health Regional Office No, VIII in coordination with Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC), Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC), government and private hospitals in Leyte and Tacloban City conducted blood letting campaign with the theme “What can You DO? Give blood, Give Now, Give Often” on May 14, 2017.

DOH Regional Director Minerva P. Molon in her message explained the importance of blood donation during disaster.

“ Injured victims need blood for survival, be it whole blood, plasma, platelet and other blood component”, she added..

In this activity, there were a total of 63 donors, of which 28 blood units were collected and were brought to Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, Tacloban City for screening and storage.

“Our blood is separated into red cells, platelets and plasma which can be given separately to individuals with specific conditions”, Dr. Molon added

Donors from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, government employees, private individuals came to DOH-RO VIII-Human Resource Training Center (HRTC) for registration, evaluation and blood extraction.

She emphasized that blood donors should be in good health condition and blood donor extraction be done every after 6 months.
Life may be regained if you donate blood, she concluded.
